Hemp vs. Marijuana – The Difference

Now that the demand for the CBD has skyrocketed, there is a building interest in the
topics surrounding it. Due to the widespread confusion and complications, it is getting very
important to understand the difference between marijuana and hemp and how are they related to
cannabis.

Cannabis is a plant which bears flowers, and it consists of three main species – Cannabis Sativa,
Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis. Hemp and marijuana are usually considered as strains
of cannabis, but in reality, they are not the right nomenclature for the cannabis plant.

Hemp is the term used to refer to a variety of cannabis containing 0.3% or less content of THC.
Hemp is the non-intoxicating cannabis harvested for industrial use. Our Mankind is using hemp
for over 10,000 years ago as the plant can be used to produce various goods like ropes, clothing,
housing material, and many more.

Marijuana is the term used to refer to a variety of cannabis containing more than 0.3% THC. It
has psychoactive properties and can induce euphoric effects on the consumer. The only defining
factor between the hemp and marijuana is in their THC contents.
